Thanks for everyone’s help collecting your newspaper, flyers etc. and bringing them to the church for recycling. We collected 35,769 pounds of paper in 2016 that were converted in Brantford by Hartmann to egg cartons. Hartmann paid us $1,788 for the paper. This money is presently being used to help pay off the washroom renovation loan. It will keep going to projects to help reduce the carbon foot print of our church.
Please keep bringing in your newspaper, flyers, magazines and paper egg cartons for our monthly paper drive. Cardboard, plastic and other non-paper products can not be recycled at Hartmann since they don’t make good quality egg cartons. Please recycle plastic and cardboard in the city recycling program.

COMMUNICATION TEAM REPORT
The Communication Team is one of the newest committees at Sydenham-Heritage, officially starting in July of 2016. It is responsible for communicating internally with the congregation (through the weekly bulletin) and externally with the surrounding community. Electronic communication is a very large part of this team’s job, making sure information is shared online through our website (sydenhamstunitedchurchbrantford.com) and with our Facebook page.
In 2016, our team consisted of the Co-ordinator, Anne Walker and one committee member, Terry Matheson. A huge thank-you goes to Terry for all of the work that she has put into the creation and maintenance of both the website and Facebook page, started long before the Communication Team was initiated. Much thanks also goes to Aileen Johnston who organizes and passes on the information that we are able to share.
Respectfully submitted by Anne Walker
The “Fun Squad “ has been a joint Sydenham Heritage group for all of 2016. It is a fundraising group of people namely, Jean Maich, Norma Janzen, Larry Eddy, Shelley Grisdale, Bev Jull, Shirley Buck, Sally Lehtinen, Dave Johnston, Flo Sills, Verna Timpener and Sue Cross. Aileen Johnston is not an official member, but a helper to the group.
We hosted a “Night in The Old West” on April 16,2016. One hundred and ten people had a most enjoyable evening with music by Sonny Sinclair and friends. The net profit was $1661.79
The Lasagna Lunch after church on May 1 made a profit of $528.
July saw an Indoor picnic with hamburgers, hotdogs, and a wonderful array of salads. Thankfully we are a congregation that loves to eat and socialize.
September 18 was “Sundae Sunday” when adults feel like kids again, making their own ice cream creations. This was held on Rally Sunday to welcome everyone back to the fall activities.
Unfortunately we had to cancel our Chili Cook off due to a lack of interest. We may bring this back at a later date.
Certain members of the Fun Squad help with other church fund raisers throughout the year, eg; turkey suppers, and other dinners to raise funds. This wonderful group of individuals worked extremely well together in 2016 and are well into planning events for 2017.

OPEN DOOR BREAKFAST
The Open Door Breakfasts have been a joint Sydenham Heritage effort. Coordinators are Verna Timpener and Shirley Buck, Jean Maich is clothing and give away Convenor. A dedicated group of volunteers from both congregations arrive on alternating Wednesday mornings between 6:30 and 7:15 a.m.; to cook, serve, cleanup and socialize with guests. There is a table of goods, including toiletries, socks, scarves, hats and household items. Also warm clothing, coats, boots and shoes. Some pick up reading material also. Every breakfast consists of hot porridge, cold cereal, toast, jam, peanut butter, fruit, muffins, tea, coffee and juice. Some of the main dishes are pancakes, scrambled eggs, peameal bacon, sausages, ham and potato patties. Our number of guests vary from 30- 70 depending on the morning. There always are enough volunteers, if someone cannot make it there always seems to be a new face to cover. God is so good!!!!!! We have a friend of the breakfast who is not a member of our church who provides homemade muffins every breakfast.
Christmas Morning 35 volunteers from the congregation and community, as far away as Paris and Ayr came bright and early to share breakfast with sixty guests. Eleven children attended and were presented with a gift. A special treat on Christmas morning were cinnamon buns, fruit cocktail and waffles, thank you to those who provided the fruit and buns, and gifts for the children.
A special thank you goes out to the faithful who come out week after week, sharing Gods love with others. The majority of our guests are very appreciative for the warm welcome , and what they receive in food and items. Thank you to all those in the congregation who support this worthy cause.
Verna Timpener, Shirley Buck, Jean Maich
